Our Founder – L. White

 

 

    Meet L. White: L. White is the founder & President of WAR: The Peace project. Over the years, her heart & sheer will led her to a place where she could help others in her own unique way.
Education, service & support are a part of her core principles. She believes that aiding others is our duty not our choice. White leads the fight for social justice by campaigning for equality & educating those on their rights.
She serves her community by speaking to youth groups on mental wellness & facilitating financial health programs for college students.

Vice President
Dr. Adriane White-Carter
Dr. Carter leads the forefront of WAR’s impact projects, actively serving her community. As a native of Jackson, Mississippi, Dr. Adriane White received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She continued her education at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi, where she received her Master’s Degree in Biology. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center before earning her specialist certificate in Orthodontics from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Dr. White is board-certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, a designation held by only 1-in-3 orthodontists.

Akilah Burgess

Presidential Assistant

Passionate about justice, empowerment & community. As proud President Assistant for WAR, Akilah is currently studying Criminal Justice at Clark Atlanta University. Committed to making a positive impact in the city while surrounded by motivated Black women, Akilah joined WAR in 2023 & currently works diligently within the organization to create meaningful change. 

Jessica Bell

     Jessica has been a board member of WAR since its formation in 2019. Serving as Treasurer from 2019-2023, she has been involved with the organization’s fundraising efforts and focuses on increased community engagement and support through the Finance Committee.

     As a licensed Architect and Interior Designer, Jessica leads design projects across multiple states, while maintaining certification as a LEED Green Associate and active member of the National Organization for Minority Architects (NOMA).  In an effort to increase community involvement through design, she also co-founded a nonprofit in conjunction with colleagues to provide mentorship and design resources to minority high school students in the Atlanta area.

Dr. Melissa Brown

As a new member in 2023 Melissa is a board-certified pediatric dentist who reduces dental fear and creates happy and healthy smiles for children. She has a passion for helping others and above all else, the enthusiasm to match it. As a new WAR member, Melissa’s contributions to the organization have been instrumental in progressing newly formed social justice campaigns.

Dr. Jada Selma

Impact Project Lead

       Jada joined W.A.R. as the program manager in 2020, implementing impact projects such as “I AM More Than My Skin” and delivering care packages for the unhoused. Following graduate school, Dr. Selma served as the Scientific Liaison and Study Coordinator for MetaSystems Group, Inc, an imaging innovations company that supports automated microscopy from 2019 until 2021.

 
      Dr. Selma currently works in Atlanta, GA as a Senior Clinical Research Specialist for the Cardiac Ablation Solutions business of Medtronic, Inc, authoring clinical abstracts/manuscripts and strategizing on clinical evidence dissemination best practices.

Petri

Social Media Director

     A resident creative of Atlanta, GA, Petri helps film, edit and develop digital content for WAR: The Peace Project. Dedicated to making a positive impact on his local communities, he contributes most of his efforts to help keep his community aware of the issues that are present in today’s society. Eager to make a difference he wants to help the world change for the better.
